YOU DON’T NEED A THERAPIST

“You Don’t Need A Therapist” stems from BYOT but I distilled down the wisdom to 55 Hard Truths that you can immediately apply to your life. With nuggets of wisdom like “The only person you can control in your life is you” and “Vulnerability builds connection while defensiveness blocks it,” you’ll learn how to shift your beliefs and behaviors to create relationships that better meet your needs. When you learn to show up differently, it’ll create ripples of change that can help create a kinder, more caring world!

Be your own therapist

“Be Your Own Therapist” is about using proven therapeutic models of therapy to increase your self-awareness so you can heal your hurts, align with your values, and commit to clear, loving action moving forward. The world is hurting and the best thing anyone can do right now is to work on learning to love themselves. When we feel good about ourselves, we want others to feel good about themselves, too, and from that space, we'll all be more capable of creating meaningful change together.

I poured my heart, soul, and a Master’s level education into this book because I believe the vast majority of us are capable of creating significant change in ourselves and our communities. This book does nothing until it’s in the hands of big-hearted people who want to live in a better world, but need some inspiration.

It’s not currently in print but you can get a PDF of the book for $10 here.

I love books, but I know they’re not for everyone. While “Be Your Own Therapist” is full of various tips to improve your mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing, it is still a book. When you’d rather just get to the meat of the issue, you’re not interested in fluff. I can appreciate that.

“Stop Making Things Harder Than They Have to Be” is the workbook version of BYOT. I removed all the fluff and give you just enough info on each model to help you get some clarity in that area. In many cases, the best you can do is roll with the punches and ask good questions. This workbook has countless questions to help you start thinking in new ways. When you ask the same questions, you get the same answers and when you ask better questions, you get better results. (Tony Robbins knows what’s up.)

Each model provides a different lens and they won’t all work for every problem. That’s ok, it’s why there are 10 different therapy models in here. If you’re looking to align with and live your values, the models on experiential and existential therapies are for you. If you have big dreams but need some direction, solution-focused therapy will help you lay down some tangibles. Narrative therapy will help if you want to change the way you see yourself and filter your experiences. Person-centered therapy will help you to be kinder to yourself, and emotionally-focused therapy will guide you in building and maintaining meaningful connections.

Ready to dive in? You’re about to open your heart and mind up to new ways of thinking, feeling, seeing, and being. Thank you for that. Let’s go!

THIS PROJECT IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD

This was originally going to be a book called “Some White Guy Mansplains Intersectional Feminism.” This wordy title pokes fun at my positionality as a white guy talking about why we need to listen to the experiences of women from all walks of life.

Instead of speaking for them, this project is now being recorded via Zoom interviews. It’s called “What We Can’t Say” to speak to the power dynamics that don’t allow for many aspects of women’s lives to be acknowledged. Straight and queer womxn of various colors speak on topics that are important to them, like pregnancy or not wanting to be a mother, the pervasiveness of sexual harassment, femininity and gender roles, and so much more. There are universals across all womxn’s experience, but there are also important differences depending on whether she is Black, or lesbian, or trans, or disabled, or fat, or some combination of these.

Our society was built for rich straight white men. Everyone who doesn’t fit that description notices the ways in which the world wasn’t made for them. The further you are from that “ideal,” the more you see. As we move toward a more accepting world, we need to honor these voices that see things us white guys can’t. We’ll never be able to see them, so our job is to believe womxn and lift their voices up. Their wisdom is what will move us toward a world more beautiful and loving than anything we’ve ever seen.
